Liz Bailey, a debt structurer in Barclays’ real estate team, comes by her passion for DEI partly as a result of her varied and international professional experience.

She worked in politics, as parliamentary intern for the Labour MP for the Western Isles and then setting up an office in Moscow for an all-party parliamentary group called Future of Europe Trust aimed at facilitating democracy in central and eastern Europe; journalism – specialising in technology, architecture, politics and motorcycles – including for Wired, Wallpaper*, Loaded, The Times, The Independent, Demos and the BBC; and law, retraining as a solicitor then joining the Real Estate Finance team at BCLP from which she did secondments to AIG, Aviva, Allianz (Paris), Deutsche Bank, Eastdil Secured, HSBC and LaSalle Investment Management. From her final secondment at Barclays she joined the bank permanently.

As well as sitting on the CREFC Europe Mental Health & Wellbeing committee she is co-head of the disability pillar at Barclays and works on numerous initiatives aimed at encouraging those from disadvantaged backgrounds into careers in real estate, including Pathways to Property and Future Leaders.

Her passion for mental health and wellbeing has also come from her own personal and family experiences, and she is committed to ensuring that the real estate sector remains diverse and inclusive and continues to become more so over time.
